Great Program on Water Conservation last Thursday, June 9th, 2016.
Katharine Brady brought an excellent program last Thursday. She is the District Conservationist for Hays County, She shared a great deal of information about our need to conserve our water and the important use of watersheds.
The Texas Natural Resources Conservation Service is coordinating efforts with other resource agencies to achieve maximum conservation accomplishments. Texas has all or part of 20 major land resource areas covering 168 million acres. Average rainfall varies from 5 inches on the west to 55 inches on the east. Seasonal patterns exist but frequent droughts and major storms of high intensity are common. The state has pressing needs for the development of additional water supplies and wastewater gtreatment.At the same time the state ranks near the top nationally in the amount of flood insurance claims paid, flood insurance coverage and flood insurance policies in effect.
There are approximately 2,000 watershed structures in Texas. These are especially important during flooding.

Flag Day...tomorrow....June 14....Meet at Ted's place at 7:00am to put up flags
In the United States, Flag day is celebrated on June 14th 2016. It commemorates the
adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. In August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
Lee Carlisle's Funeral.
A celebration of Lee Carlisle's life will be at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3039 RR12 at 11:30am on Thursday, June 16, 2015. Our club will be sending flowers to that service. You can read Lee's obituary online, or go to Pennington Funeral home and click on obituaries.

"How to Get Real Successful Exercise!
"For those keyboard jockeys (those with jobs that require sitting at a computer all day) who want to exercise, but don't want to spend the money on those fancy exercise machines, here's a little secret for building arm and shoulder muscles. Three days a week is best.
Begin by standing (in your cubicle works well) with a five pound potato sack in each hand. Extend your arms straight out to you sides and hold them there as long as you can.
After a few weeks, move up to ten pound potato sacks and then fifty pound potato sacks, and finally get to where you can lift a one hundred pound potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.
Next, start putting a few potatoes in the sacks."
