"Who Wants to be a Lt. Governor?"
(An article by Past Lt. Governor Rob Martin)

This is a question asked every year when the current Lt. Governor's term expires.  I first experienced this after my first term was approaching October 1st, the annual date that the incoming Lt. Governor takes office.  After lengthily searching for a volunteer, I continued in that position for a second term.  As the end of my second term approached, I again sought volunteer Kiwanian to replace me.  My health prohibited continuing for a third term.  I continued a futile search for a replacement from all of our clubs in Division 38.  Even with the assistance of the current Governor we were unsuccessful in finding a replacement.
Even though this position is a critical one designed to assist the clubs in resolving numerous needs and even though it is an opportunity for an individual to participate in the management of our district and even with the satisfaction I achieved in both terms.
In addition to the numerous Kiwanians I met, I WAS PUZZLED ABOUT THE RELUCTANCE OF OUR MEMBERS TO ELEVATE THEIR ROLE IN ASSISTING OUR GREAT ORGANIZATION.
Since that time we continue to experience the same difficulties.  As I continue to be involved on various positions in the Texas-Oklahoma District, I discussed my concerns with others who had "Answered the Call". I continue to gain a great admiration for our organization and the members who continue to serve in various ways.
In a future article I will seek assistance in potential ways to seek answers to the absence of volunteers to elevate their participation in Kiwanis.  Your responses are hopefully enlightening and can lead us to identifying how we can best reach a solution."  (Rob Martin)
