"In trying tlive up to its motto of "WE BUILD", our club in the past as in the present has always given a central role to its work with children and youth
, both to those with special needs and to the group in general.  Two of the most active committees over the years have been those 
for Boys and Girls Workandfor Underprivileged Children.  These later were incorporated into one committee, and most recently have been included, together with the former committee on Vocational Guidance.
     In the early days, many individual services were paid for.  There were numerous tonsilectomies recorded, as well as other operations.  Two notable ones which were successful were for cleft palate, another for crossed eyes.  The records are filled with notations of $40, $45, $52,, $100 for operations.....A series of treatments was paid for an epileptic child ($160).....Rental was paid for an iron lung for a needy person.....There were numerous recordings of dental services.....Glasses were provided for many youngsters....One needy athlete was provided with contact lenses, for $55.....Payment was made to an optometrist for a series of eye exercises for a child......These are just a few.....Watch for more next week!
